What Trim collects

• Recordings you make — your screen, plus the microphone, camera, and tab/system audio you choose to include. Recording only happens when you press record; the extension captures nothing otherwise.
• Video metadata — the title you give a recording, its duration, and a per-video view count.
• Transcripts — each recording is automatically transcribed so viewers get captions and a clickable transcript.

Trim has no accounts. It does not collect your name, email, browsing history, or anything from pages you visit. There are no ads and no third-party analytics.

Where it goes

Recordings are uploaded to Trim's storage on Amazon Web Services (US region) and automatically deleted one year after upload. Transcription is performed by Amazon Transcribe as part of that hosting. Data is not sold or shared with anyone else.

Share links

Every recording gets an unguessable link. Anyone you give the link to can watch — treat it like the video itself. The uploader additionally receives a private edit link that can rename, trim, or delete the recording.

What stays in your browser

The extension and site keep a local list of recordings you've made or watched (so the home page can show them) and your settings. This lives in your browser's local storage and is never transmitted.

Why the extension asks for broad permissions

While you are recording, Trim injects a small draggable camera bubble into the page so your face is part of the capture, and re-injects it as you navigate between pages mid-recording. That is the only thing the site-access and navigation permissions are used for.

Deleting your data

Open a recording's edit link and press Delete — the video, its transcript, and the share link are removed immediately and permanently. For anything else, open an issue at github.com/am3e/withtrim.
